Dr Thompson is passionate about teaching and training to share the knowledge and skills he has gained over more than 20 years experience in medicine, urology and clinical research. He believes that improving knowledge and skills in the medical community through the volunteer teaching activities he provides to hundreds of students and doctors of all levels each year, he can provide a much wider benefit to the Australian community than he could otherwise achieve through his own practice alone.
He teaches medical students, interns, residents, urology registrars (surgeons in training), research fellows, GPs and even gives lectures to other urologists to update them on the latest advances in prostate and bladder cancer research.
Examples of current teaching activities include:
Chief supervisor responsible for teaching and supervising University of NSW Phase 3 medical students during their Urology Clinical Rotations
Chief supervisor responsible for teaching and supervising Interns (Junior Doctors) on their Urology term
Chief Supervisor to unaccredited (junior) Urology Registrars during their 12-month clinical placement at St George Hospital
Chief supervisor to Uro-Oncology research fellows at St George Hospital during their 12-month research tenure
Co-supervisor as staff specialist to St George senior Urologic surgical trainees in uro-oncology and general urology.
