Positive Surgical Margins

A/Prof Thompson had a rate of 0% for organ confined cancers and 12% for locally advanced cancers extending outside (beyond) the prostate capsule, outcomes in the top 5% of all surgeons in NSW. The average for all surgeons was 13% for organ-confined cancer and 35% for locally advanced cancer.

 
 

Urinary control (incontinence)

A/Prof Thompson had a rate of 0% for moderate/severe ‘urinary bother’ and average of 92/100 urinary continence scores for men undergoing robotic prostatectomy, outcomes in the top 5% of all surgeons in NSW. The average for all surgeons in NSW were 10% moderate/severe urinary bother and 75/100 for urinary incontinence.

 

Urinary voiding function

A/Prof Thompson had a rate of 0% for moderate/severe ‘urinary bother’ and average of 97/100 urinary function scores for men undergoing robotic prostatectomy, outcomes in the top 5% of all surgeons in NSW. The average for all surgeons in NSW were 10% moderate/severe urinary bother and 91/100 for urinary function.

 

Sexual Function

A/Prof Thompson had a rate of 18% for moderate/big ‘sexual bother’ and average of 41/100 sexual function scores for all men undergoing robotic prostatectomy (including those who were unable to have nerve sparing due to advanced cancer and those with pre-existing erectile dysfunction before treatment), outcomes in the top 5% of all surgeons in NSW. The average for all surgeons in NSW were 48% moderate/ big sexual bother and 24/100 sexual function scores.
